Ron Rocca

President & CEO

Fortunato Ron Rocca has served as our President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of our board of directors since December 2011. From 2005 to October 2011,... Mr. Rocca served as Vice President, Sales and Marketing, and as General Manager, at Prometheus Laboratories Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical and diagnostic company which was acquired by Nestlé© SA in 2011, where he was responsible for leading the commercial organization, strategic planning and implementing projects designed to maximize brand sales. Prior to Prometheus, Mr. Rocca was the General Manager of Alpharma Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company. Earlier in his career, Mr. Rocca served in senior sales and marketing management positions for Elan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a neuroscience-focused biotechnology company. Mr. Rocca received a B.A. in Marketing and Personnel Management from Towson University.

Dr. Thierry Dervieux

Chief Scientific Officer, Medical Director, New York

Thierry Dervieux, Ph.D. has served as our Chief Scientific Officer and Medical Laboratory Director since October 2010. Dr. Dervieux has nearly 20 years of experience... with the development of drug monitoring and molecular diagnostic assays in partnership with academia and diagnostic industry. Prior to joining Exagen, Dr. Dervieux was Vice President of Research and Development with Cypress Bioscience, Inc., a pharmaceutical company with a focus on drugs to treat central nervous system disorders, where he developed our current portfolio in the rheumatology space from 2008 to October 2010. He previously served as Senior Director Research and Development with Proprius Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical and personalized medicine company focused in rheumatology and pain management, until its acquisition by Cypress Bioscience. Prior to that, he served as Principal Scientist and Director of Research and Development at Prometheus Laboratories. Dr. Dervieux is board certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and holds certificates of qualification as medical laboratory director in the categories of cellular immunology, clinical chemistry, drug monitoring, genetic testing and diagnostic immunology. Dr. Dervieux holds Pharm.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France, an inter-university diploma in biostatistics from the University of Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France, and trained at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Kamal Adawi

Chief Financial Officer

Kamal Adawi has served as our Chief Financial Officer since June 2017.  Kamal previously held the positions of Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Secretary and... Treasurer at Pathway Genomics, a global genetic testing company.  Prior to joining Pathway Genomics, Kamal served as the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at Exagen.  Kamal previously managed the finance departments for GenMark Dx and Digirad, both publicly traded diagnostic companies. He also served in various capacities in the finance and accounting departments at Becton, Dickinson and Co., a global medical technology company.  Kamal’s education includes three degrees in the field of business. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University with a major in finance, an MBA from Oakland University with a focus on management and a master’s degree in finance from San Diego State University.

Arthur Weinstein, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer

Arthur Weinstein, M.D. has served as our Chief Medical Officer since October 2017 and has been a member of our board of directors since December 2013. Dr. Weinstein... has a long academic career with a clinical and research focus on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and other Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Georgetown University and has served as Professor since 2002. In addition, Dr Weinstein is Emeritus Chief of Rheumatology, Associate Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Medstar Washington Hospital Center in D.C. He has served in leadership roles on the Board of Directors for the Lupus Foundation of America's D.C./ Maryland/ Virginia Chapter since 2002. Dr. Weinstein was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2011, and was recognized as Master (2009) and received a Distinguished Service Award (2015) by the American College of Rheumatology. Dr. Weinstein received an M.D. from the University of Toronto, and completed his residency and fellowship training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Toronto and University of London (UK).

Claudia Ibarra

Senior Vice President Laboratory Operations

Claudia Ibarra has served as our Senior Vice President, Laboratory Operations since January 2017, after being our Vice President, Laboratory Operations from 2014. She... joined Exagen in February 2012 as our Senior Director Laboratory Operations. Mrs. Ibarra previously served in numerous positions at Genoptix, Inc., an oncology and hematology focused laboratory, from 2006 to January 2012, including as the Director of Molecular Laboratory and as the Molecular Genetic Training Program Coordinator. Prior to Genoptix, Mrs. Ibarra worked in a variety of clinical laboratories in the fields of clinical chemistry, endocrinology and immunology. Mrs. Ibarra holds a degree in Biochemistry with specialization in clinical laboratory science from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina

Mark Hazeltine

Vice President of Finance

Mark Hazeltine has served as our Vice President of Finance since June 2017. Mr. Hazeltine served as Exagen’s Sr. Director of Financial Planning and Analysis... beginning in March 2015, and has been instrumental in financial management and strategic planning for the company. Prior to joining Exagen, Mr. Hazeltine served as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, and Director of Financial Business Processes at CareFusion, a medical technology corporation. Mr. Hazeltine also brings valuable experience gained from multiple management roles at multinational organizations including Kyocera and Qualcomm. Mr. Hazeltine holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of San Diego.

Christian Kampfl

Vice President of Sales, Rheumatology

Christian Kampfl has served as our Vice President of Sales since August 2018. Christian joined us with over 27 years of pharmaceutical/biotechnology commercial... experience with the depth of his experience residing in sales leadership, sales training and sales execution. In his most recent role, Christian served as the head of sales at Sentynl Therapeutics Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical startup, where he was responsible for building and leading Sentynl’s sales, training and operations functions resulting in its successful acquisition by Zydus Cadila. Christian’s extensive biotechnology and specialty drug sales execution expertise comes from the various commercial roles of increasing responsibility he has held and the multiple drug launches he was directly involved in at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Elan Pharmaceuticals, Endo Pharmaceuticals, Genentech and Nautilus Neurosciences. Over his career Christian has consistently built high performing teams in multiple therapeutic areas including rheumatology, neurology and pain management and has launched or relaunched more than 15 specialty drugs. Christian earned his Bachelor’s degree in International Business at Hofstra University.

Brian Littlefield

Vice President, Information Services

Brian Littlefield has served as our Vice President, Information Services since April 2014. Prior to joining Exagen, Mr. Littlefield served as the Senior Director,... Information Services at Prometheus Laboratories from 1998 to March 2014. At Prometheus, Mr. Littlefield led the establishment of the IT function and was highly involved with the creation and execution of controls necessary for regulatory compliance. Prior to Prometheus, Mr. Littlefield worked as a consultant with Deloitte and as the Director of Support Services at Quidel Corporation, a diagnostics company. Mr. Littlefield holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.

Brian McEvilly

Vice President of Marketing

Brian McEvilly has served as our Vice President of Marketing since February 2016. Brian joined us with nearly 20 years of medical marketing experience including his... most recent role as Vice President of Marketing at WomanCare Global, a non-profit organization focused on women’s health. Mr. McEvilly gained a deep understanding of the global autoimmunity diagnostics market when he successfully lead Product Marketing for 5 years as the Director of Marketing at Inova Diagnostics, Inc. He also played an important role in the initial launch of the AVISE brand as the Director of Personalized Medicine at Cypress Bioscience from 2008-2010. The personalized medicine offering at Cypress was later acquired by Exagen allowing Mr. McEvilly to quickly make meaningful contributions to the continued growth of this familiar franchise. Brian’s career in medical marketing began in 1998 when he excelled in various Sales and Marketing roles at Sunrise Medical, Quidel and later Gen-Probe. Mr. McEvilly holds a B.A. in Business from the University of San Diego and earned an MBA degree, graduating with honors from University of California, Irvine.

Tami Powell (York)

Vice President, Corporate Payer and Reimbursement Strategy

Tami Powell has served as our Vice President of Corporate Payer and Reimbursement Strategy since September 2017, after being our Senior Director, Corporate Payer... Strategy, Reimbursement and Government Affairs since 2014. Ms. Powell previously served in various capacities with Prometheus Laboratories from 1999 to 2014 and Novartis from 1986-1999. Tami brings over 25 years of healthcare experience, focused on stakeholder adoption of novel molecular diagnostic and therapeutic products primarily in Rheumatology, Oncology and Gastroenterology. Tami leads Exagen strategy and communication for policy, regulatory, payer evidence development, billing compliance, coding, value based reimbursement and revenue cycle management. Ms. Powell holds a B.A. in Marketing from Augsburg College.

John Wegener

Vice President, Sales & Managed Markets

John Wegener has served as our Vice President, Sales and Managed Markets since November 2013. Prior to joining Exagen, Mr. Wegener served in various capacities with... Prometheus Laboratories from 1999 to October 2013, including as the National Director, Managed Care and a Regional Sales Director. During his time at Prometheus, Mr. Wegener launched five new diagnostic tests and managed diagnostic channels with national general reference laboratories. Prior to Prometheus, Mr. Wegener worked in sales for Novartis. Mr. Wegener holds a B.S. in Business from the University of Arizona.
